Elizabeth was admitted to practise in 2017 and joined Aston Legal Group in 2019. Her experience spans family law, criminal law and Intervention Orders, with her previous criminal law experience providing valuable insight into complex matters involving intervention orders and related legal issues.

In this Aston Legal Group case, our client had already obtained a Divorce Order. His former wife subsequently applied for the Order to be rescinded, arguing that the parties had not genuinely been separated for the required 12 months.
The matter proceeded to a contested hearing, with evidence addressing their living arrangements, financial relationship, sexual relationship and how they presented publicly.
Following the evidence and submissions, the Court was satisfied that the parties had been living separately and apart for the required period.
The application was dismissed and the original Divorce Order remained in place.

A Personal Safety Intervention Order (PSIO) may apply where the person involved is someone such as a neighbour, colleague, friend, landlord, tenant or even a stranger.
Importantly, you don't necessarily have to wait for physical violence. The Aston Legal Group information page explains that PSIOs can address behaviour including stalking, harassment, threats, property damage and assault.

Mediation provides an opportunity for separated parties to discuss financial or parenting issues in a confidential and impartial environment, with an independent mediator helping identify issues and possible solutions.
It can be a quicker and more cost-effective way of trying to resolve a dispute without going to Court, and it allows the parties to actively participate in how an agreement is reached.
But mediation isn't appropriate in every situation. Aston's article discusses circumstances where mediation may not be suitable, including certain safety concerns, family violence, child safety concerns and urgent matters.

We congratulate Daniel Dalli, partner of Aston Legal Group, on his not-for-profit association, the Brimbank Business Association, winning the We Are Brimbank Awards in the category of Employment and Enterprise. This award demonstrates outstanding contribution to the prosperity of Brimbank.
Daniel is the President of the Brimbank Business Association, a not-for-profit organisation established in 2019 by five community members who either live, work or conduct business within the Brimbank business community. Their aim is to grow the economy by strengthening and building the capacity of existing businesses while also attracting new businesses and investment. They have set out to revitalise the community and engage those that have felt disconnected. The BBA has established itself to be a voice to our business community, and importantly represents the interests of business owners. The BBA provides support and upskilling for business owners as well as networking, building relationships, representing, negotiating, growing the BBA and creating economic and social value for the whole community.
